Contemporary Forms & Flow with Shannon Stewart, Dancing Grounds New Orleans
Contemporary Forms and Flow streams live on Instagram @dancinggrounds on Tuesdays at 10am New Orleans time (11am EDT).
Shannon Stewart / Screaming Traps contemporary practice uses sensation, energetic directions, and imagery to create space in the body and an ongoing dialogue with the environment while practicing codified forms, improvising, and choreography. She has trained in classical western European influenced forms like ballet and modern as well as breakdancing, somatics, gaga, CounterTechnique, release technique and many other practices that inform and create patterns in her body. She has been a certified instructor in the Gyrokinesis Method for 10 years, is a Teaching Artist for Dance for Parkinson’s Disease (D4PD), and an alumni of the Anne Braden Anti-Racist training program. She has had the honor and privilege of teaching in universities, in community-based organizations, in major dance festivals and programs for a decade. While completing her MFA, she researched and created a sustainable contemporary practice that cultivates a critical awareness of the poses muscle group and creates a somatic availability that can be applied across forms. This class is a short survey of that material meant to be simple, repeatable, challenging across levels, sweaty and fun.
