Dancing with DAP – Dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s (Sitting) with Stacie Lowell

Aug 19 2020

Eastern Time
1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Hi everyone! I have finished training with Dance for PD and I am so excited to share the wonderful music and movement we worked on. I have been working diligently to create a series of classes for both sitting and standing students. Students will learn movements that will encompass balance, strength, focused movement, dexterity, and coordination as well as a number of areas not mentioned. My classes are designed to give you freedom of movement with a bit of a challenge, but will also allow you to learn and be creative where you are most comfortable – in your home. I encourage you to get up and move, or sit and dance, at least two times a week. “Move it or lose it” is a very real and true statement. Dance will allow you to not only use what you’ve got but dancing will offer you a chance to expand your mind and agility.

Dancing with Parkinson’s offers specifically tailored dance classes for people with Parkinson’s disease through our network to everyone online. In Dancing with Parkinson’s classes, participants are empowered to explore movement and music, encouraged to gently improve balance and posture, all in the comfort of your home. This began as an in studio class but transformed into an online opportunity as travel and caretakers were difficult to accommodate. Launched as a collaboration between Stacie Lowell and Parkinson’s Lifestyle Management, the Dancing with Parkinson’s program also provides various outlets for exercise that can be done standing or while sitting.

The class will consist of:
1) Warm up for 5 to 10 minutes
2) Movement and exercise to awesome music for 30 to 40 minutes
3) Cool down for 5 to 10 minutes
* Frequent breaks can be taken

Equipment: non slip socks, cane, walker, chair, wheelchair, water, towel
