Fluid Forms with Stephanie Liapis

Stephanie’s class is based in release technique and highly influenced by her work with Doug Varone. Class begins with a guided improvisation investigating ideas of connection, weight, effort and sensation. Imagery is used to create connection to the body and the body’s relationship to space, and most importantly, to build a sense of joy in how we move as individuals. These concepts are then further explored and developed through structured exercises. Students are asked to move boldly and physically, finding ease in the joints and committing to the movement task at hand.

Stephanie Liapis (MFA) is an Assistant Professor of Dance at Swarthmore College. Her professional career spans twenty years and includes work with Doug Varone and Dancers, Nicholas Leichter Dance, Susan Marshall & Company and many others. Stephanie choreographs dances, designs costumes and restages the works of Doug Varone. She has taught extensively across the country and abroad including positions at Hunter College, Barnard College, the University of Washington, Cornish College of the Arts and Long Island University in Brooklyn. Stephanie is in the midst of a new creative project which examines and redefines gender power dynamics in existing iconic works.

Any donation $1 – $25 is greatly appreciated, however, no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
