Grounding – Movement with Jenn Nugent

During our time together the focus will be directed towards volume, weight, sensation inside the body, its relationship to the floor; with an intention to offer an experience of conversing intimately with movement, with dance.

My practices are profoundly inspired by Daniel Lepkoff, Wendell Beavers, Patty Townsend, and an ongoing collaboration with Paul Matteson. I danced with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company from 2009-2014 and David Dorfman Dance from 1999-2007. Currently I am working on a new solo project, Up Against, which uses dance (steps, improvisation, shape, and gesture) as a way to articulate my curiosities and allow the vibration and energies that surface within the process of being in the studio to reverberate inside the performance. Recently I was an artist in residence at the Bodies in Motion Festival supported by A.P.E.@Hawley and the School for Contemporary Dance and Thought in Northampton, MA. I am a teaching artist at Gibney Dance NYC, Movement Research NYC, NYU Tisch School of the Arts, and Sarah Lawrence College, NY.

Jenn has decided to direct all donations toward freeskewl to fund the upcoming Poetic Entry Artist Talks program. Any donation $1 – $25 is greatly appreciated. However, no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Image Description: Jenn dances in a bare studio with white walls and a grey floor. Jenn, a white woman with no hair, wears a black tank top and dark blue pants with red stripes. Her left leg is extended high behind her poking into the space as her upper body tilts towards the right. Her arms are down and slightly behind her and her head is turned to the left and her gaze is up.
