Int/Adv Contemporary with Johanna Bergfelt, School of Toronto Dance Theatre & company, ProArteDanza
Drawing on classical ballet and different styles of contemporary dance, this class explores total body movement, use of breath and weight, suspension, and changes in rhythm, speed and direction. Classes begin with a strengthening barre warm up, followed by a couple of centre exercises. Class is designed to fit into a small space. Music is provided by four independent Toronto based drummers (who I usually work with when I teach in a studio), who each wrote and recorded music for these classes.
Johanna Bergfelt, a graduate of the Royal Swedish Ballet School, has performed extensively in Sweden and in Toronto, her home of 20 years. She is based at the School of Toronto Dance Theatre where she is an Artistic Associate and a core member of faculty. Johanna also teaches at In Studio (run by the National Ballet of Canada), GMD, ProArteDanza, and she has been a guest teacher for Matthew Bourne and Lucinda Childs when they were on tour in Toronto. Johanna is also a certified Pilates instructor.
