Love in the Time of Corona Virtual Dance Party: Soul Food + Solidarity
You’re invited to dancemaker Parijat Desai’s LAST virtual dance party of the NYC shutdown, “Soul Food + Solidarity”!
LOVE IN THE TIME OF CORONA: SOUL FOOD + SOLIDARITY
Part 1: Music starts 8:00p ET; flow in whenever you’re able | Part 2: Convo begins ~8:45p ET
Parijat begins her final “Love in the Time of Corona Virtual Dance Party: Soul Food + Solidarity” by playing a range of Black and desi musics—some topical, some danceable. Logon when you’re able. Then we offer a moment of collective silence followed by a conversation with 2 special guests:
Ever wondered what’s the difference between Southern and Soul Food? How certain dishes ended up as standard summer BBQ fare? How Black and Native Americans have shaped U.S. cooking?
Our featured guest James Beard Award–winning author Adrian Miller can tell you all about it. Adrian, a Soul Food historian, will talk about his rich research, his new book Black Smoke, and thoughts about the Black Lives movement.
We’ll also be joined by young political organizer Sahana Mehta who will share about South Asian American activism, desi/Black solidarity, and ways we can all get involved.
