Practice + Preparedness with Nattie Trogdon and Hollis Bartlett
Practice + Preparedness is a deeply embodied weekly movement class – questioning what does practice look like in our current times? It is a time for us to research and explore our whole selves, integrating all of our embodied practices into our artistic processes and our processing. There will be improvisation scores, anatomical awareness, body conditioning, expulsive exercises, discourse and discussion, maybe phrase-work, maybe at-home research, maybe prompts, maybe readings, and sharing of feelings. This class will be ever-evolving, asking what do we need/ what do we want? We will mostly importantly build and hold space for each other and our collective research – always attuning to each other and our deeply empathetic and resilient selves, so we can all continue to practice and prepare. All movers are welcome. (90 mins)
Hollis and Nattie are makers, performers, teachers, and partners. Their collaborative practice stems from a fascination with the form and function of the body – researching both the anatomical and fantastical. Currently residing in Brooklyn, their work has been presented at venues across New York and New England. As educators they co-facilitate open classes and workshops throughout the city and at various universities. Hollis has danced with Doug Varone since 2011 and Nattie is a freelance artist having performed most recently with Doug Varone, Keith Johnson, David Dorfman, and Peter DiMuro. They are graduates of NYU Tisch and SUNY Purchase respectively, receiving their BFAs in dance performance.
