Salsa Somática with Amelia Uzategui and Juan Urbina
Can salsa be somatic? Can the social components of this dance support us during this time?
Salsa literally translates to sauce and reflects a corporeality informed by diverse cultures, polyrhythms, and high mobility in the torso. Using accessible facilitation practices, Juan and Amelia hold space for engaging with salsa music as healing, rhythmic possession. A dance tradition which entices communion, they end the class with conversation and exchange on the physical experience.
