Salsa Somática with Juan and Amelia
SALSA SOMÁTICA OPEN LEVEL ONLINE DANCE CLASSES with Juan and Amelia
Taught in English con un poquito de Español
12:00 PM (12:00) EDT = 6:00 PM (18:00) Central European Summer
Salsa literally translates to sauce and reflects a corporeality informed by diverse cultures and polyrhythms. In this class, engaging with rhythm comes first. Then, dancers are welcome to “go for the drama!” and develop individual performance interpretations.
Using accessible facilitation practices, Juan and Amelia hold space for engaging with improvisation-based dance practices as healing, rhythmic possession. ALL BODIES ARE WELCOME. Each online session ends with conversation and exchange on the physical experience.
Amelia Uzategui and Juan Urbina are Latinx dance artists who met at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts in Germany. Both completed their MA in Contemporary Dance Education. Juan combines Venezuelan traditions into his contemporary dance practice: patterned steps, spatial figures, dynamics and polycentric movement. Amelia is a certified practitioner of the Tamalpa Life/Art Process® whose praxis grounds itself in decoloniality, intersectional political thinking, and the post-migrant experience. Together, they collaborate on an upcoming project titled: “Perfectionism Detox: A dance with voices from the south.”
