Our brains and spinal cords are our great interpreters. Interpretation connects or disconnects. Here lies our ability to access choice. We will lubricate our nerves and imaginations in order to dance where we are. In lieu of the small spaces, heart breaking news, and warped time-scale, I have recently found the most insight and curiosity in a balance between follow-along direction and fit-to-the-needs poetics. Through a combination of self-bodywork exercises and full-body dancing, that is the balance I hope to offer in this class. Come as you are. Movement will happen.

Shaina Cantino (she/her & they/them) is interested in using imagination to compel greater consciousness and dexterity in movement (aka life). Shaina most recently taught improvisation, composition and technique at Colby and Bowdoin colleges. She draws upon visceral and neural therapies in her practice as a Licensed Massage and Craniosacral Therapist. Collaborators have included Aretha Aoki, Leah Fournier, Chris Aiken, Angie Hauser, Paul Matteson, Nancy Stark Smith, Kathleen Hermesdorf, Joy Davis, Michael Figueroa, Kate Seethaler, and Sara Coffin. She holds an MFA from Smith College.
